The RamSetu controversy

Well, it has been sometime since I wrote my first so called "BLOG". Life for everyone has been a series of ripples. Food for thought has always been a hunger for the intellectual mankind. I was watching the videos regarding RamSetu issue on http://www.ibnlive.com/. NASA has discovered a connecting bridge between India and Sri Lanka. However, we are yet to prove that it was man made. The political parties just need to have a reason for politics. This time as you know, it is the RamSetu, a bridge at DhanushKoti connecting India with Sri Lanka. The videos depict the socio-economic issues that have arose or are yet to arise just because of the bridge. Even if Lord Ram ever takes a look at the earth from the heavens, he is bound to regret building the bridge as it has caused enough problems for the common man as a whole in the 20th Century. The video shows the ships dredging the oceans to make the channel deeper for the larger ships that have to go from west to east to pass through, which presently take a longer distance by going around Sri Lanka. There are 3 videos. The first one showing the political problem that has arose. The parties on the north trying to justify that the bridge was built by Lord Ram as described in The Ramayana. The second one deals with the problems of the fishermen who get their livelihood from that part of the sea and the last but not the least, deals with the deficiencies of the project.

The Ramayana, an important religious book for the Hindus, is the story of Lord Rama whose wife Sita was captured by the King of Lanka, Ravana. So, Lord Rama along with the Vanarsena (Team of monkey soldiers) headed by Lord Rama's devotee Hanuman had built the bridge to cross the sea and get Sita rescued from Ravana.

Now the controversy stands, whether the bridge is man made or a natural one. Even the Archeological Survey of India is not sure about that as they have not been asked to investigate into the matter. The video also shows that the Navy and the CoastGuards have not been consulted regarding the issue although they are the ones who are mostly involved in activities like patrolling the sea coast. Analysts say that building the channel will only outweigh the costs rather than the benefits. Due to the channel, the following issues will crop up:

1-- enable the LTTE to create problems with the cargo ships
2-- lot of the population in that area will loose their only means of livelihood i.e. fishing.
3-- loss of the thriving marine life and;
4-- the cargo ships often pollute large stretches of the areas they move in. So, pollution is also again a major factor here.

To conclude this topic, my personal opinion is to get the ASI check the bridge and decide whether it is a manmade structure or just a natural one. Even if the bridge is a natural one, it must not be destroyed in any way, as it has a lot of endangered marine life and MOST IMPORTANTLY, in any case, it must not be made a political issue for the sake of evil politicians.

Thanks and regards,
